Before your actual trip to Uganda to enjoy your holiday, make sure that you are fully vaccinated. Vaccination helps boost your immunity and considering the wide spreading COVID-19 strains/variants, it is important that you get fully vaccinated. Considering the wide spreading COVID-19 strains globally, even travelers who have fully vaccinated themselves are at a risk of getting infected from the virus.
All travelers on Uganda safaris are encouraged to observe at all times the Ministry of Health Standard Operating Procedures/safety measure even when fully vaccinated. These include putting on a mask, maintaining a social distance of 2 meters away from each other etc.

Before traveling to Uganda
- Before you travel for your Uganda safari holiday, it is essential for you to understand the airline’s and destination’s requirements/measures/SOPs related to travel, masking, testing and quarantine. The travel requirements differ from country to country, and if you are traveling from U.S, you will realize that they are totally differ from U.S. requirements. Failure to observe the destination’s requirements may result into denying travelers entry and he or she may be required to make a return trip to U.S.
During travel
- While on planes to Uganda, make sure that you have worn your mask covering your nose and mouth. This applies to even travelers on Uganda safaris and they are using trains, buses or any other means of public transportation. Masks should also be put on while you are in outdoor places of conveyance.
- Other than wearing a mask, it is also important to keep a social distance of 2m apart from one another.
Before traveling from Uganda to U.S
All travelers taking return flights to the United States from Uganda whether you are U.S. Citizen and fully vaccinated, a valid Negative COVID-19 test result must be presented. Your Negative COVID-19 test certificate should be obtained within a period of 3 days prior travel/documentation of recovery from COVID-19 in the last 3 months prior boarding a flight to U.S.
After travel
- After your Uganda safari holiday, ensure that you carry out a test 3 to 5 after.
- Self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 should be done, self isolate and test in case you have signs and symptoms of COVID-19.
- Never travel in case you got exposed to corona virus or you are sick/test positive for corona virus. Even if you are still waiting for your test results, do not travel.
Travel advice for unvaccinated travelers on Uganda safaris
- Travelers on Uganda safari and they haven’t fully vaccinated themselves must get tested with a viral test 1 to 3 days prior traveling to Uganda.
- Wearing a mask ensuring it covers your nose and mouth while on a plane, buses or any means you plan to connect to Uganda for a holiday.
- A physical distance of 6ft/2 meters must be maintained-avoid crowds as much as possible.
- Continuously wash hands or use hand sanitizer to disinfect your hands.
U.S. Consular operations in Uganda
As of June 14, 2021, all visa services and non-emergency U.S. Citizen services in Kampala, Uganda have been temporarily suspended at the U.S Embassy. All travelers in need for emergency assistance can contact the embassy via U.S. citizen services web page.
All arrivals from category 1 (India) and category 2 states specifically Turkey, South Africa, UK, U.S.A, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya and UAE to Uganda shall be subjected to PCR corona virus testing upon arrival at Entebbe Airport (EBB). This is regardless of whether travelers are vaccinated or not.
New Travel Restrictions in Uganda
All public and private transport (excluding essential worker’s cars, the registered tourist vehicles, cargo vehicles and emergency vehicle) have been suspended for 42 days and this was effective June 18, 2021.
All inter cities/inter district travels have been suspended for 42 days. Curfew is from 7:00pm to 5:00am.
For 42 days, places of worship, bars, schools, cinemas, sports betting and sports events remain closed for 42 days.

COVID-19 Testing in Uganda
The PCR tests or Antigen tests are available for U.S. Citizens in Uganda and other travelers. Within 72 hours, your test results can be ready. Tests can only be done from accredited laboratories at average cost of Uganda shillings 240,000.
The Antigen test services are available near Entebbe Airport just at Kazuri Medical clinic. Antigen tests are available at US Dollars 50. Note, entry and exit requirement in Uganda besides visas, passports is a valid Negative PCR test certificate.
