Nyungwe Forest National Park
also contains over 310 species of birds and expect to spot most of them. The park’s birds to spot include Albertine owlet, Yellow-eyed black flycatcher, handsome spur fowl, mountain masked apalis, stripe-breasted tit, Grauer’s swamp warblers and others. You will begin and end your trip in Kigali capital, Rwanda.
Arrive at Kigali Airport (KGL) early for pick up by your driver guide and drive to Kigali city. At Kigali, you will be taken through the different historical and cultural centres such as Kigali Memorial Ground (Gisozi), and visit Inema arts gallery and other craft shops. At the Kigali genocide memorial ground, you will be exploring more about the 1994 Rwandan genocide and at the site, there are displays of victim’s photos, their belongings and other exhibits. Your city driver guide will drop you off at your respective hotels for relaxation and preparation for the next day’s activities.

You will be picked up in the morning and drive to Nyungwe NP located in Southwestern Rwanda. Your road trip will cover at least 6 hours and en-route, you will be visiting the Nyanza King’s palace, and not to miss the Ethnographic museum. After the short excursion, settle for lunch and next will be for you to connect to the lodge in or around Nyungwe.
The lodges to stay
Enjoy a hefty breakfast and you will be transferred to the briefing centre to learn different guidelines for chimpanzee trekking. The morning chimp trek session lasts for 2-4 hours with a guarantee of one hour for you to interact with the chimpanzee community face-to-face in the wild at a distance of 8m. Have enough to take pictures and then walk back to the lodge for a relaxed stay.
In the afternoon, set off to explore the Igishigishigi trail on a canopy walk for 2 hours. This will include viewing primates and birds, plus the beautiful forest canopy of Nyungwe Forest National Park.
The lodges to stay
Get up and have a delicious breakfast at the lodge then opt for colobus monkey trekking for 2-4 hours. This will be done with the lead of an experienced guide and expect to explore the different behaviours of colobus monkeys. Alternatively, you could start your return trip back to Kigali after check out and today marks the end of the 4-day Nyungwe expedition.
